Another road-trip means a new BBQ joint along the way.
Today, I am way down east, actually up north east in Currituck County and that means I’m giving Currituck BBQ a try. I had big hopes based on the vibe, but disappointed in the end. Pork was tender and moist, but no smokiness at all. Had to scrape off 1/3 of the slaw as it was mostly large chunks of cabbage that dominated the sandwich. The ‘cue, which was probably a little too chopped/minced for my liking, needed a little extra flavor love in the form of their Eastern NC sauce, which was delicious with a great balance of red pepper flake heat and apple cider vinegar tart.
Not the worst sandwich I’ve ever had, but has potential to be so much more. 5.5/10.
